Threat to professor

Santiniketan, Oct. 10: A retired professor of Visva-Bharati has said he has been receiving death threats ever since he lodged a complaint of theft at his house in September.

Pranabananda Jash said he was in Delhi when his home was raided on September 9. The professor’s Bolpur residence has a caretaker but he doesn’t stay in the house at night.

“I lodged an FIR with Bolpur police after I returned. On September 24, I found a stone wrapped with piece of paper on which it was written — ‘tor barite abar churi korbo (we will again target your house)’. I ignored it. Again on October 8, there was another chit that read: ‘tor barite abar churi korbo, toke khun korbo (we will again target your house and murder you)’. I lodged the complaint after this.”

The police said they have started an investigation.
