Balurghat, Oct. 9: Two persons were arrested by South Dinajpur police yesterday for allegedly stealing BSNL cables and telecom instruments worth over Rs 1 lakh have been recovered from them.
A car containing the cables was also seized.
Sirajul Islam, 34, and his brother Rafikul Islam, 32 were produced at a court in Balurghat today and they have been remanded in judicial custody till November 15. The accused are residents of Sarbamangalla near Kumarganj.
“We are hopeful that after this arrest the problem of cable theft across the district will come down,” said Saumyajit Roy, the inspector in charge of Kumarganj police station.
