Ranchi, Oct. 8: The cabinet today approved the Jharkhand Liquor Wholesale Regulation, 2012, which allows the state beverage corporation to supply liquor to retailers.
The retailers will have to requisition Jharkhand State Beverage Corporation Limited, which will facilitate supplies after proper verification and completing formalities.
So far, wholesale licences were auctioned. Now, the beverage corporation will play the wholesaler’s role.
Cabinet co-ordination department principal secretary N.N. Pandey said the new order would be effective from the date of notification. He, however, did not specify when the notification would be issued.
The beverage corporation was formed in 2010, but it took nearly two years to frame regulations for becoming functional. It has also not set up godowns at key locations. Hence, whether the body will fall into the hands of the liquor syndicate remains to be seen.
