Colombo: Mahela Jayawardene has stepped down as Sri Lanka’s T20 captain. As for leading in the other formats, he’ll take call in the near future.
Jayawardene, however, is available as a T20 player. “If the selectors and the next captain need me,” he quipped.
Logically, Angelo Mathews should be his successor.
According to Jayawardene, he’d made up his mind before the World Twenty20 began and had taken the selectors into confidence.
Asked by The Telegraph if he would have changed his mind had Sri Lanka won the tournament, Jayawardene said: “No... I wouldn’t have reviewed my decision.”
