Raid reveals Maoist link

Documents related to activities of the CPI (Maoist) were seized in a raid on government quarters in Tallah on Sunday. The quarters belongs to Shanti Das, an employee of Tallah pumping station.

Abhishek Mukherjee, the secretary of the CPI (Maoist) city committee, was arrested from the same area last month. Letters written by senior Maoist leaders and other documents were found with Abhishek. During interrogation, he revealed the location of the quarters, said an officer of the Special Task Force.

The seized documents include Maoist literature, pamphlets and letters written by some students of Jadavpur University. Das, however, was not arrested.

The documents recovered from Abhishek revealed the names of several students who are active in their institutions. They are under our scanner, said the officer.

Power cut: Power supply to the terminal buildings of the city airport was disrupted from 3.40pm to 4.16pm on Sunday. Emergency lights had to be switched on inside the terminals. Flight operations were, however, not disrupted, said an airport official.

Thief chase: A man had to run across Howrah bridge in his briefs, chasing a thief who ran away with his clothes while he was bathing at Mullickghat. A policewoman caught the thief and handed over the clothes to the owner, Sanjay Singh, 25, an employee in a hotel in Howrah. Singh had Rs 6,500 in the pocket of his trousers.
