Police claimed to have identified four men who had alleged robbed three women on two consecutive days, and fired on two occasions, in the southern part of the city last month.
The alleged mastermind of the gang, Saifuddin Laskar, had been arrested 10 days ago in Mathurapur, South 24-Parganas, with an improvised firearm on September 26.
“Saifuddin had said he and his associates were involved in the three snatchings on two consecutive days in Jadavpur and Dhakuria. It was the 28-year-old who had pulled the trigger on both occasions,” said an officer of the detective department.
Saifuddin identified his gang-mates as Abu Kalam and Muzaffar, who police said were professional snatchers, Rustam Paik, a rickshaw-puller who allegedly worked as tipper, and Rafique.
“Rafique rode the bike, while Saifuddin and one of the professional snatchers would sit on the pillion,” said an officer. All four are absconding.
