EB have a point to prove

Margao: Kingfisher East Bengal will have a point to prove in the I-League when they take on Sporting Clube de Goa at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday.

In the Federation Cup, Sporting Clube de Goa were the only side whom Kingfisher East Bengal failed to defeat as they drew 1-1 in their opening match.

On Sunday, they will be eager to win against the Goa side. East Bengal midfielder Mehtab Hussain sounded confident about his team’s chances ahead of the match. “I-League is a different ball game altogether. We are high on confidence after our triumph in the Federation Cup. We want to make a winning start to our campaign,” Mehtab said.

Coach Trevor James Morgan will have a fully fit side at his disposal. Robin Singh, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, is expected to play a part in the latter stages of the match.

While East Bengal are confident after their impressive showing, Sporting Clube de Goa have failed to get the right start to the season. They lost to weaker teams to bow out of the Durand Cup and Federation Cup. But coach Ekendra Singh has regrouped the squad and is ready to spring a surprise against the red and gold brigade.

“We need to remain focussed and we need a good start. My boys are ready for the challenge and are banking on the home support to get the better of East Bengal,” Singh said.
