Calcutta: GN Gopal, Swapnil Dhopade and MR Venkatesh continued to lead with 4.5 points at the end of the sixth round of the Tata National Premier Chess Championship, at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, on Saturday.
Seven players are sharing the second spot with four points each. On the top board, M.R. Venkatesh and G.N. Gopal drew after a hard-fought battle in 44 moves in a Reti Opening.
IM Swapnil Dhopade of Central Railways kept his chances of maiden GM norm alive as he drew with IM Vidit Gujarati in 28 moves in a Queen’s pawn opening.
P Kartikeyan held GM Deepan Chakravorty to a draw 33 moves in a Grunfeld Defence.
