Overground GNLA men held

Shillong, Oct. 6: East Garo Hills police today apprehended two overground GNLA workers and two businessmen for allegedly being involved in collecting and donating money to the outfit.

“We received information that GNLA’s overground workers were picking up money from several hardware stores in Williamnagar as demanded by the outfit’s area commander, Jimmy Ch. Momin,” a police official said.

The official said based on intelligence inputs, a police team set up surveillance on a shop belonging to Sattaranjan Shaw, alias Vicky, and Kishor Das.

Two persons approached the shop and the money was handed over by Vicky to one of them, the official said, adding that the police team immediately apprehended the duo.

The shopowner, along with Das, was also picked up and brought to Williamnagar police station for interrogation.

The overground workers have been identified as Elizer Marak and Tangsengbirth Ch. Momin.

An amount of Rs 475,000 was recovered and a receipt of the transaction was seized from Das’s possession.
