Shillong, Oct. 6: Civil Society Women’s Organisation president Irene Hujon and another of its woman activists were arrested in the wee hours of today for allegedly assaulting a group of girls here last evening.Police said Hujon and the other member, identified as Rosetta War, were arrested for allegedly assaulting four girls and a youth last evening. The women activists had also allegedly labelled the girls as sex workers.

East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said the duo were arrested based on an FIR filed by the girls for abduction, outraging their modesty, robbery and assault, causing hurt.

The court of judicial magistrate I. Rymbui, however, granted bail to the duo.

Kharkrang said the police would be making more arrests and added that no NGO would be allowed to carry out such acts. Other than the CSWO headed by Hujon, there is another NGO by the same name headed by Agnes Kharshiing.
