Calcutta/St Andrews: South African Branden Grace sprinted five shots clear of the field after the Dunhill Links Championship second round on Friday as he tried to land back-to-back wins for the second time this year.
He carded a five-under 67 at St Andrews, one of three courses being used at the $5 million pro-am event, to finish with a 17-under total of 127.
Swede Joel Sjoholm (67) and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen (69) shared second place on 132.
Shiv Kapur, who hit two-under par round of 70, said he is adapting well to the unique challenges of links golf. His solid second round score over the links left him three under for the tournament.
“All in all I’m coping well (with links golf),” he said. “I’m altering my ball flight and definitely getting closer to where I want to be. It’s my favourite course and I gave myself a lot of chances. To play with Jamie (Redknapp), Thomas (Bjorn) and Ruud (Gullit) was fun.
“I’m three under overall and I would like to be a few more, but hopefully I’m storing them up and will have a low round tomorrow.
“I’ve got to put the pedal to the metal and see what happens. It’s hard to know what the cut is going to be with people spread all over the place, but if I keep shooting under par then hopefully that will be enough.”
