Sania and Nuria in title round

Tokyo: Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek overcame a second-set lapse to defeat Andy and Jamie Murray and enter the semi-finals of the ATP Japan Open, here on Friday.

The top seeded Indo-Czech pair defeated the British brothers pair 6-4, 3-6, 10-2 in one hour and 17 minutes in the quarter finals of the USD 1,280,565 hard court event. Paes and Stepanek saved a break chance in the opening set and converted one of five chances to nose ahead.

They continued their profligate ways, squandering all the four break chances and allowed the rivals to comeback when they failed to save one chance on their own serve.

However, they outplayed the Britons in the Super tie-breaker, winning it comfortably to pocket the match. They face Daniele Bracciali and Frantisek Cermak in the last-four teams stage.

In China Open, Sania Mirza earned the opportunity to end her 2012 season with a title win as she reached the summit clash of the China Open with her partner Nuria Llagostera Vives. The fifth seeded Indo-Spanish pair downed the sixth seed team of Katarina Srebotnik of Slovakia and Jie Zheng of China 7-5, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the USD 4,828,050 hard court event.

They play third seeded Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who defeated fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova 6-4, 7-5 in their semi-final.

It will be fifth final of the season for Sania, who will not compete in the rest of the season.

She won two titles this season, one with Australian Anastasia Rodionova (in Pattaya) and one with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands (in Brussels).
