FCI in quarters

Guwahati, Oct. 5: Food Corporation of India SC, Guwahati today blanked Global Academy, Gossaigaon 3-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the Amba Medhi invitation football tournament under way at Mangaldoi stadium.

After the initial midfield tussles, the Guwahati outfit opened its account in the 20th minute as striker Vishwamitra Basumatary found the net for with a spectacular grounder from the right flank that left opponent custodian Pritam Soren gaping in the 25th minute.

Midfielder Birdwm Basumatary increased the lead with a solo effort in the 40th minute and FCI led 2-0 at lemon break. Vishwamitra struck again for his second goal in the 66th minute by making no mistake in anticipating a long pass by Birdwm from the midfield to the right flank and then shooting it home.

Rhino Assam Regiment, Tezpur, will play United Club Mangaldoi in tomorrow’s match.
