Soccer final live on screen

Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) east team will clash with their central counterparts in the final of the All-India Inter-zonal SAI Football Tournament in Ranchi on Saturday.

The final, scheduled to kick off at Birsa Munda Football Stadium and expected to be attended by deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto, will be beamed live across the state on Ranchi Doordarshan.

The consent from the channel, which will enable thousands of soccer enthusiasts across Jharkhand to watch the action from the comfort of their homes, came on Friday.

In-charge of SAI S.K. Verma welcoming the news on Friday said the coverage will give the tournament and the players some much-needed publicity.

“It is a positive news. We wanted Doordashan to cover the entire tournament. They finally have agreed to cover the final,” Verma said.

Earlier during the day, SAI east blanked SAI Imphal 3-0 to emphatically seal a berth in the final. Centre forward Azamuddin Malik started the rout in the 21st minute pumping in the first goal for the east zone. Ranjit Oraon and Pradeep Kumar scored later.

SAI central, in the second match, sneaked into the final by beating SAI Guwahati 1-0 in their semi-final match.
