Look forward to a clean Durga Puja this year.
Acting on the orders of the civic body, A2Z Waste Management Pvt. Ltd has deployed a broom brigade to sweep the capital’s roads in view of the festive season. The special cleanliness drive, which kicked off from Friday, is aimed at ensuring a spic and span Ranchi during Durga Puja.
The private agency has formed five groups, each comprising two executives, who will visit pandals across the city, check out their requirements and carry out cleanliness drives accordingly. Each group has been given the responsibility of 11 wards.
A2Z has also decided to depute four labourers each at the pandals round the clock during four days of the Puja. Cleaners will also be in action in the night, from 8pm to 6am. At present, there are only two shifts — from 6am to 2pm and from 2pm to 8pm.
“The workers have been asked to specially clean roads, streets and drains near the puja pandals. During the four important days of Durga Puja, a pick-up van and four labourers will be stationed at each pandal to attend to any cleaning job,” said Ashish Sourabh, public relations officer of A2Z Waste Management.
The state capital hosts about 50 major pujas. Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has asked its partner agency to coordinate with the puja committees for ensuring proper cleanliness.
“A2Z has been asked to take extra efforts to keep the city clean during Puja. The agency has got cracking,” said RMC’s public relations officer Naresh Sinha.
A2Z will also pay more attention to important roads, from where garbage will be cleared round the clock. These include Main Road, Circular Road, Kanke Road, HB Road, Harmu Bypass Road, Bariatu Road, Ratu Road, Hinoo Road and Purulia Road.
“We have some 1,300 hands now. If we feel the need for additional labourers during the puja, we will hire them. Also, we have kept one earthmover ready to cater to the need of puja pandals for works like filling up of ditches or levelling the ground,” said Sourabh.
