New Delhi, Oct. 5 (PTI): The Union cabinet today doubled the hospital allowance for central staff in a move that will benefit around two lakh employees.
The risk allowance given to staff engaged in hazardous duties will also be revised.
“The cabinet approved a revision in the rates of risk allowance. Hospital patient care allowance and patient care allowance are to double from September 1, 2008,” an official statement said.
While the hospital allowance is given to select employees from Group C (clerical) and D (peons), the risk allowance is paid to those engaged in hazardous duties. Examples include sweepers who clean underground drains and staff in infectious diseases hospitals.
Bengal hub off
The cabinet committee on economic affairs has accepted the Bengal government’s decision not to develop a petrochemical project in Haldia’s Nayachar, two weeks after the Trinamul’s exit from the UPA.
The Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) was approved in 2009 when the Left was in power. But the Mamata Banerjee regime informed the Centre in February this year that it would not implement the project and develop an industrial park instead.
