City-based dancers Tanusree Shankar and Priti Patel are among the 36 artistes who will receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for 2011 at a ceremony in New Delhi on October 9.
Its the most important recognition for the form and our work and what every serious dancer in the country aims for, said Patel. Shankar, selected for her work for creative and experimental dance, said: I am overwhelmed because it was unexpected. The first person I thought of was Ananda [Shankar] because he would have been very happy.

Suraj, a terminally ill cancer patient, wants to be a cop, and officers of the Bidhannagar commissionerate granted him his wish.
