Durgapur, Oct. 4: A first-year engineering student in Raniganj has complained that he was beaten up, locked up in a bathroom for hours and threatened with murder by four of his seniors for two months since May.
The student of HB Institute of Technology and Mining College had first complained to the college authorities but had not got any response from them, police quoted the boy as saying.
“He then sent an e-mail to the anti-ragging helpline which was forwarded to the police commissioner of Asansol-Durgapur, Ajay Nand, on Tuesday. He ordered an immediate inquiry,” an officer said.
The student from North 24-Parganas also attempted suicide after he left hostel for a private accomodation, but was rescued by neighbours. The college principal denied having received any complaint.
