‘T20 is all about giving surprises’

Mohammed Hafeez

Colombo: Pakistan’s captain, Mohammed Hafeez, not only ate “sukoon se,” but slept peacefully on Tuesday night.

“I’d told you that we’d done our job, beating Australia convincingly... Jo apne control mein tha humne kiya, we couldn’t have controlled the India-South Africa game... Knowing that, main relaxed tha...

“Had dinner in the hotel and watched the India match in the room... Sukoon se... I knew what had to happen, would happen... Main tension nahin leta,” Hafeez said on Wednesday afternoon, while speaking to The Telegraph.

Hafeez does stay remarkably calm and that augurs well for Pakistan, ahead of Thursday evening’s semi-final against Sri Lanka.

Clear about where his team stands, Hafeez declared: “We believe we can defeat Sri Lanka... T20 is all about giving surprises, so one tries to have something ready for the next opponent.”

According to Hafeez, that T20 allows the players to express themselves has been a factor in Pakistan’s excellent show in the World Twenty20 editions.

Pakistan won the 2009 edition, under Younis Khan. Runners-up (to India) in 2007, they lost to Australia in the 2010 semi-final.

Simply put, Pakistan have always made the semi-final, at least.
