Duo get off plane, land in custody

Chennai, Oct. 3: Two passengers who had boarded the Air India Dreamliner flight from Chennai to Delhi this morning landed in police custody after they abruptly got off the aircraft minutes before its take-off at 10.45am.

The men from Kerala — Ameer Twaha, 34, from Perumbavoor and P.M. Mansoor, a 19-year-old student of Al Ameen College in Ernakulam — had been taking many pictures of the aircraft’s interior on their mobile phones before they deplaned.

They were handed over to the CISF by the airline staff. The two are being questioned by airport police, who have found that Twaha had purchased the two business class tickets using an HDFC Mastercard from the airport counter two hours before the flight.

Their cellphones also had photos of Chennai airport. “We are questioning them on all aspects especially after the recent arrest of an ISI spy at Tiruchy,” said an officer of the anti-terrorist wing of state police.

Kerala intelligence chief T.P. Senkumar said tonight he had not received any communication from his Tamil Nadu counterpart on the arrest. But sources said Twaha was a tour operator who ran an agency by the name Akbar Tours in Perumbavoor.
