Get fresh vegetables at your doorstep

- Private company to start unique delivery service from Nov. 13

Forget the daily trips to the market, the trek through muck and filth and the regular haggling with vendors. Instead, sit at home and get fresh veggies delivered right at your doorstep, that too without burning a hole in your pocket.

Come November 13, a Ranchi-based private company, Speed Mart, will introduce doorstep delivery service of vegetables. All that consumers will have to do is acquire membership of the company and get a debit card-type payment card against Rs 500.

They can place the order either when Speed Mart sends its staff to the houses or online by logging into sales@speedmart.in. Payments will be deducted from the card through the swipe method at the time of delivery. Moreover, the Rs 500 that one is paying initially is not membership charge. In fact, consumers will get vegetables worth Rs 750 against this sum.

“We are basically a software company. But we want to try out this idea of reaching fresh vegetables to households with the help of new technology,” said Amresh Kumar, director of Speed Mart, which has put up a kiosk at the handicraft mela at Morabadi.

Explaining the order process, Kumar said company staff would visit the houses at the start of every week and give the families a “weekly planner”. “The consumer has to mention the vegetables he or she wants and the quantity required per day for the entire week. Our staff will deliver fresh vegetables every day and swipe the payment cards on the machines they will carry,” Kumar said.

As for the cash part, he said a customer would get vegetables worth Rs 750 against Rs 500 that he had paid at the time of getting membership over seven months (Rs 100 for six months plus Rs 150 for the last month). “However, if a member crosses the Rs 100 limit per month, he will have to recharge the card from his own pocket,” Kumar added.

Deliveries will be made from 6 am to 9am and from 4pm to 7pm everyday.

The company has plans to set up five air-conditioned warehouses. Located in places like Itki Road, Pandra, Kanke, Hinoo and Booty, the warehouses will be connected via internet and, in turn, centrally linked with Speed Mart’s office at Ratanlal Commercial Complex, Ratu Road.
