Footballers awarded

Imphal, Sept. 30: The All Manipur Football Association feted seven women footballers and an assistant coach, who featured in the winning Indian team of the 2nd SAFF Women’s Football Competition 2012 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, at AMSA complex at Mapal Kangjeibung today. The players include skipper O. Bembem, A. Romi, Rebika, Ashalata, Reena Roy, Premi and Prameshori Devi.

Super Fight League: Champion fighter Kario Issac Mathew who won the Super Fight League Challenger Champion Mixed Martial Arts title at Mumbai recently was extended a cash award of Rs 1 lakh by villagers of Punanamei village, Mao, during a felicitation ceremony in Senapati district yesterday. CBSE volleyball: Miles Bronson Residential School will host the CBSE Cluster-I volleyball tournament from October 1 to 3. All the matches will be played on the school’s Borjhar premises here. Taekwondo grading: Joshna Nayek, SC Cholan Konyak, Paul Zeliang, Sunita Devi, Lekivi K. Jakahulu, Moaba, Leka K. Jakahalu, Kekhriehino Kevikhuchusa and Haosi Meyo have been promoted to black belt 1st dan in the ITF Taekwondo black belt grading examination held in Dimapur. Obed Khimyungan secured the black belt 2nd dan in the same grading event conducted by chief instructor and technical director of Nagaland Taekwondo Federation Isreal G. Xuivi who is himself black belt 4th dan.

Amba Medhi soccer: Home side Mangaldoi United Club made it to second round of the 33rd Amba Medhi Football Tournament, defeating Udalguri Star Club 2-0 in the inaugural match of the tournament at Mangaldoi Stadium here yesterday. Kamal Boro and Jouhan Boro scored the goals in the ninth and 70th minutes respectively. NF Railway SC, Guwahati will play Organ Club, Dimakuchi tomorrow.

Nagaland taekwondo: St. Stephen Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, emerged the overall champions in the two-day 12th Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship that concluded at the State Indoor Stadium, Dimapur, yesterday.
