Two army jawans died after the two-wheeler they were riding hit a state bus near the Taratala mint on Sunday.
K.P. Singh and Vinod Kumar Urgi, both attached with the 121 Regiment, were declared dead at SSKM Hospital. Police said they sustained injuries in their head and chest.
“The jawans, both Thakurpukur residents, were coming down the Taratala flyover on their way to Kidderpore around 3.30pm. The bus had stopped on the slope of the flyover near the mint. The rider lost control and hit the bus. The duo were flung off the bike,” said a police officer.
“They were wearing helmets and were not intoxicated. But the impact of the crash was such that the helmets could not save them,” the officer added.
Accident: Bali resident Debabrata Lahiri, 82, was run over by a local train while crossing the tracks near Bali Halt station in Hooghly. Lahiri was a music teacher.
