Lady abducted after heist

Calcutta, Sept. 29: A gang of robbers kidnapped a homemaker and escaped with cash and jewellery worth about Rs 10 lakh from a house in Sonarpur this evening.

The gang left behind a note threatening the house owner that his schoolteacher daughter would be kidnapped too if he informed police or tried to look for his daughter-in-law. The note also threatened to kill the daughter-in-law if the orders were not followed.

Only Rupali Dingal, in her thirties, was present in the house near Garia station when the robbers barged in this afternoon.

When Rupali’s mother-in-law Angurbala returned home around 4.30pm, she found the door open and cash and ornaments missing from the almirah. Broken pieces of furniture lay on the floors of several rooms of the two-storey house. Rupali was missing.

Angurbala, a teacher working for the Integrated Child Development Scheme, found the note in the bedroom of her husband Bhairav, a land broker. She alerted the other family members.

Bhairav lodged an FIR this evening.

Rupali and her husband Biplab, who runs a computer training centre in Gosaba, have been married for five years.

Police have started a probe.
