Watson: Chasing 141 was easy

Pat Cummins

Colombo: Shane Watson feels chasing a small target made things easier for Australia on Friday.

“Chasing 141 was a bit easier… A much bigger total would have meant taking more risks… We’ve played (Ravichandran) Ashwin and Harbhajan (Singh) a lot and hence it wasn’t much of a problem,” said the Man of the Match.

“There was always the chance of rain… In the end, we’ve got to do with whatever resources we have and make the most of the situation.”

Watson felt that their bowlers did a good job by restricting India to only 140.

“We always knew that India would play with three spinners.

“But you can’t take Zaheer Khan for granted. But our medium pacers bowled beautifully…

“That is our strength… They set up the match for us… Then David (Warner) and my partnership set the platform for the victory,” he said.

Watson said the target is to continue with his form. “Our plan is to obviously win the title…

“But we don’t know about it now. We’ve got to keep playing like this right throughout the tournament as we’ll be up against all tough teams.”
