Wahingdoh in semis

BORDOLOI TROPHY

Guwahati, Sept. 28: Royal Wahingdoh Football Club, Shillong stormed into the semi-finals of the 61st Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Tournament inflicting a 6-0 defeat on Nagaland Police in the fourth quarter-final at Nehru Stadium here today.

In a one-sided affair, the heavyweights from Shillong took control from the outset. In the 22nd minute, an unmarked Seityasen Singh tapped the ball home off a centre by Lalmangaihsanga from the left flank.

In the second half, Lalnunpuia netted two goals, one in the 55th minute and another in the 64th minute. Both were headed in off corner kicks by Jackychand Singh.

There was no respite for the Nagaland cops as Reagan Singh conjured up the goal of the tournament so far — a long ranger from the right flank in the 70th minute to make the score 4-0. In the 85th minute, it was Bickyson Kharkongor’s turn to join the goal feast, as he made no mistake to the net the ball off a Reagan pass. Two minutes later, Wahingdoh was awarded a penalty after Zosangkima was brought down inside the box. African recruit Bekay Bawar scored in his second attempt off a rebound from the crosspiece to make it 6-0.
