Party expels Bo over bribes

Beijing, Sept. 28: Bo Xilai, who once believed he could become China’s paramount leader, has been expelled from the Communist Party amid charges of taking “massive bribes”, playing a serious role in Neil Heywood’s murder and engaging in “inappropriate sexual relations”.

A statement on Xinhua, the state news agency, said a meeting of the Politburo had decided to punish Bo, 63, who has not been seen in public since he was put under investigation in March for a “serious breach of Party discipline”.

Xinhua said that a seven-month investigation had shown that Bo had “committed serious mistakes” not only during his time as the Party chief of Chongqing, but also “during his time in Dalian and as commerce minister”.
