Speed post gets dearer

India Post has raised the rates for speed post after six years.

Under the revised rates, speed posts within a municipal area for up to 50gm would cost Rs 15 against the earlier Rs 12. The all-India rate for similar weighing articles has been raised from Rs 25 to Rs 35. The new rates will come into effect from Monday.

Anil Kumar, the director, business development, technology and marketing, General Post Office, Patna, said on Friday: The speed post tariff was last restructured in 2007. The revision has been made considering the market rates of the express mail industry and the cost of operations of India Post.
