Come November and the state authorities will get an opportunity to learn how to manage and develop sports infrastructure and tap sporting talent to the utmost.
Magic Bus India Foundation, a noted NGO that specialises in education through sports, will hold a two-day international meet titled Maidan Summit 2012 in Ranchi.
Harshita Arvind, relationship officer of the NGO, said the summit — scheduled at BNR Chanakya on November 26 and 27 — was the third annual Sport for Development international meet.
“After holding similar events in Delhi and Mumbai, we wanted to visit a place that hasn’t developed much in terms of sports. The scope for growth of sports is immense in Jharkhand and hence, we are holding it here this time,” she said. The conference will discuss how sport can be used to influence every area of community development and to empower all sections.
“It will be a platform for interaction between state, national and international practitioners aiming to use sport as a tool to develop education, health, youth empowerment and social inclusion. It is supported by the Australian Sports Commission,” Arvind said.
Deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto, who holds the sports portfolio, has given his consent to be the chief guest.
He will be joined by stakeholders in national and international sports arena in a series of panel discussions.
Jharkhand shot to prominence by hosting the 34th National Games in Ranchi last year. But the state government has been found wanting in maintaining the mega sports complex, the principal venue, in Ranchi, let alone promote sports in Jharkhand.
