Calcutta, Sept. 26: Calcutta High Court today appointed two amici curiae (friends of court who assist judges in a case) to determine whether it could suo motu issue contempt rule against chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her alleged comments against the judiciary.
A division bench of Justices K.J. Sengupta and Ashim Kumar Mondal appointed advocates Hirak Mitra and Ranjan Dev as amici curiae. It directed a photojournalist and a reporter of two TV channels to file affidavits stating if the news item showing Mamata making the comments were based on facts.
