Calcutta, Sept. 26: Tarak Das, the police constable who was suspended twice for assaulting journalists during a Left bandh in February and a promoter later, was arrested tonight for allegedly leading an attack on six CPM supporters two weeks ago and ransacking a party office.
Calcutta police officers said Das was picked up from Baghajatin after 10pm. “We were looking for him for the past 10 days,” said Pallab Kanti Ghosh, the joint commissioner of the detective department. “We will press non-bailable charges against him. He will be produced in Alipore court tomorrow.”
Das, who has Trinamul links, had allegedly attacked the CPM supporters with iron rods while capturing the CPM office on September 12.”
“He allegedly broke the lock and put a new one. When CPM leaders broke the new lock, Das and his aides attacked them and ransacked the office,” an officer said.
