Assam Rifles in semis

Guwahati, Sept. 25: Assam Rifles, Tezpur entered the semi-finals of the 61st Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Tournament defeating Sunrise Athletic Club, Guwahati 5-4 via sudden death in the first quarter-final at Nehru Stadium here today.

The regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw with Sunrise finding the net through striker Joseph Camara in the first half and Assam Rifles equalising through L. Santa Singh in the second half. Sunrise custodian Das denied Assam Rifles the victory during regulation with some brilliant saves in the last few minutes of the match. In the penalty shootout, the tie-breakers ended in a 3-3 draw while in sudden death, both the shots by foreigner Jhon Madu and Vokram Singh did not find the net for Sunrise. For Assam Rifles, Kameiís shot rebounded off the crosspiece and L. Zuala found the net. Earlier in the tie-breakers, Akum Ao, Thoithoiba Singh and Santa Singh found the net for Assam Rifles and Nymer Loyi, Shaolin Singh and Sayao Thankul ruffled the net for Sunrise.
