An 18-year-old boy was shot dead and a relative injured over a land dispute at Telidih crossing in Chas township on Monday morning.
The dead has been identified as Vicky Kumar Singh, a resident of Chas, while the injured, Madhu Ranjan Singh Chowdhury, has been admitted at Bokaro General Hospital. The incident took place at the disputed site.
According to police sources, Vicky got caught in the land row between another relative, Sanjay Singh (38), who lives at Telidih, and one Paan Babu Ansari of Chas township. “Sanjay had purchased a commercial plot at Telidih crossing, about 8km from Bokaro steel city, from S.K. Modi. However, Paan Babu and his men claimed that the land belonged to them,” said a source.
Around 10am on Monday, Paan Babu and seven armed men reached the plot to raise a wall. When Sanjay came to know about it, he called Vicky and Madhu. Soon the trio reached the spot, but two men from the rival camp — Raju Ansari and Pappu Khan — fired at them, killing Vicky on the spot. Sanjay had a close shave. The assailants fled.
“Raids are on to nab the accused,” Bokaro SP Kuldeep Dwivedi said.
