Colombo: Richie Richardson, a former West Indies captain and a top-bracket batsman of his time, is convinced that young Virat Kohli is “set to be a great.”
“I like Kohli’s attitude, like his temperament... From what I’ve seen of him, he’s very positive and accepts the challenges head-on. He’s set to be a great,” Richardson told The Telegraph.
Speaking at the Taj Samudra on Sunday morning, Richardson, who is now the West Indies manager, added: “Kohli has been doing well across formats and is happy to play a leading role... That he’s already the ODI vice-captain says something about him.”
The other day, former England captain Graham Gooch had described Kohli as a “great find.”
Kohli, 23, is averaging over 40 in Test cricket, 50-plus in ODIs, and around 35 in T20 Internationals. He’s been having a terrific 2012.
Clearly, many would love to be in the shoes of the ICC’s ODI Player of the Year.
