Colombo: “We’re disappointed, but have got to move on... The tournament isn’t over,” is how West Indies manager Richie Richardson summed up the mood after Saturday night’s loss to Australia on the D/L Method.
A former captain, Richardson told The Telegraph on Sunday: “There’s nothing you can do about the weather... We’re disappointed, but happy with the way we batted (posting 191 for eight)... However, it does get hard to accept defeat after scoring almost 200.”
The West Indies lost to Australia by 17 runs, in what was their first match of the World Twenty20. Australia are through to the Super Eights, while Darren Sammy and his men must beat Ireland on Monday.
Coach Ottis Gibson took the same line as Richardson. He said: “There’s nothing you can do with such situations... You can’t control the weather.”
