Dempo qualify for the semis

Calcutta: Nigerian striker Koko Sakibo scored a hat-trick to help Dempo SC enter the semi-finals as they crushed Mumbai FC 4-0 in a Group A match of the Federation Cup at Jamshedpur on Sunday.

After captain Clifford Miranda opened the account for the winners in the 23rd minute, Sakibo pumped in two goals in the 43rd and 79th minute, and completed his hat-trick in injury time.

The Goa outfit annexed the group with seven points from three matches while Lajong remained on three after playing an identical number of matches. Arrows finished with five points from three matches.

In another match of the group, Pailan Arrows edged past Lajong FC 2-1. While Holicharan Narzary and Prabir Das scored for Arrows, Ebi Sukore netted the only goal for Lajong.

Talking about the Dempo-Mumbai FC match, the Goa-based club started aggressively. Dempo could have taken the lead as early as in the second minute but Ryuji Sueoka’s missed a penalty. The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute. Miranda dodged past a defender to shoot home a brilliant goal to give the lead to the Goa-based side.

Koko scored his first in the 43rd minute, drilling the ball past Mumbai FC goalkeeper Sharath K. Koko scored two goals in the second-half to help his side reach the knockout stage.
