Jewel jazz with Raima

Itwas a dazzling Wednesday morning as Raima Sen unveiled Rio Tinto’s Indian diamond collection Nazraana at Taj Bengal. “People always consider diamonds to be expensive but yet they are ready to spend Rs 20,000 on a cell phone. Gifting diamonds adds that personal touch,” said Vikram Merchant, manager (sales and marketing) of Rio Tinto, India office. The latest collection starts at Rs 4,999.

t2 caught up with Raima for a chat...

What jewellery do you always wear?

I wear earrings. I am not a necklace person as such. I wear my rings all the time. I always wear solitaires and my mother (Moon Moon) has gifted me many designs! I also love bangles.

Your favourite metal is...

Platinum.

How do you dress up for an occasion?

If I’m wearing a golden sari, I wear gold jewellery and if I’m wearing western wear, I choose silver.

How often do you buy jewellery?

I usually go with my mother. She has better taste in jewellery. She tells us, ‘This is good...’. I love to buy bangles. I keep buying them all the time.

A piece of jewellery that you’re saving for your wedding?

None... but my mother keeps saving all the time. She has saved some antique jewellery and she shows it to us and says, ‘This is for you and my son-in law and my first grandchild!’

A film in which you loved the jewellery you wore...

I did a documentary on Rabindranath Tagore with Rituda (Rituparno Ghosh) and I loved the jewellery he made me wear.
