Zaheer touched by Dhoni praise

Colombo: Spearhead Zaheer Khan, who is just days away from completing 12 years as an India cricketer, has been touched by the strong vote of confidence from captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“It feels really nice when the captain shows such high confidence... It’s good to hear what he said,” Zaheer told The Telegraph (at the Taj Samudra) on Saturday afternoon.

A while earlier, talking to the media ahead of India’s World Twenty20 clash against England, Dhoni put Zaheer on a par with Sachin Tendulkar.

“We should give him (Zaheer) equal respect, like we give to Sachin, because he’s the Sachin for us when it comes to the bowling department... He has been our best bowler, whatever the format may be...”

No captain has ever praised Zaheer, a veteran of 85 Tests and 200 ODIs, in such a manner. Not that they haven’t been appreciative of his contribution, though.
