Ranchi, Sept. 22: Jharkhand Lokayukta Amreshwar Sahay today issued a notice directing Rajesh Kumar, an under secretary in the mines and geology department, to explain how he withdrew his full salary from December 7, 2007 to November 16, 2008, a period during which he was under suspension.
The notice was issued after one Vijay Kumar Ram of Ranchi’s Hindpiri knocked on the doors of the ombudsman drawing its attention to the “corrupt practise” on January 10.
Ram in his petition has said though Kumar was entitled to just half his salary but had withdrawn the total sum.
The petition also stated that when the matter came to the fore and the mines and geology and the finance departments slapped show cause notices on Kumar, he quietly went and deposited the extra amount back in his account to hush up the matter.
In a separate case, the Lokayukta fixed September 27 as the date of hearing into a case of irregularities during preparation of list for the distribution of Indira Awas homes at Simdega’s Kurdeg block.
The matter came before the Lokayukta on March 18 last year when JVM worker Dilmohan Sahu filed a petition all eging unfair practises in distribution of Indira Awas units.
Sahu in his petition alleged that when the state government came out with a revised list of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people for the 2010-2011 financial year to approve Indira Awas at Kurdeg block, 31 Shaws and Yadavs found place on it.
According to the complaint, the state had listed a total of 1,102 people on the new SC/ST list, of which a handful were not genuine.
A Madan Shaw, for instance, was shown as ST and a Madhusudhan Yasav shown as SC, while they originally belonged to the backward and other backward class categories.
Following the petition, Lokayukta Sahay had asked the deputy commissioner of Simdega Praveen Toppo to file his reply in this regard.
Toppo, in turn, asked the deputy development commissioner of Simdega Gosai Oroan to file the reply on his behalf.
Oraon, however, filed the old list with the Lokayukta on April 9 this year that contained the 31 bogus names. He later, on being pointed out the irregularity, apologised and submitted a fresh list on September 12 this year.
