M&M looks to diversify

Calcutta, Sept. 22: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the country’s leading sports utility vehicle maker, is looking to bolster its presence in passenger cars. The company, which recently forayed into the compact SUV segment with the Quanto, is planning to expand its Verito platform to include hatchback and compact sedan versions.

Ranjan Kumar Mitra, who is part of Mahindra’s product strategy and new product development, said the company was working on a hatchback version and it should be ready early next year. The hatchback will mark M&M’s entry into the compact car segment.

At present, M&M sells around 2,000 units of the Verito per month.

Besides that, the company has lined up the launch of another SUV — Rexton — with Korean partner Ssangyong, and electric vehicle Reva NXR, which are likely to be launched during the festive season this year.
