New Delhi: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Thursday broke into the world top 20 in the latest badminton ranking following her ‘giant killing’ exploits at last week's China Masters.
The 17-year-old, who upset London Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui in the quarter finals, surged four places to achieve the 20th place in the BWF ranking announced.
However, for Sindhu, the good news came on a day when she lost her pre-quarter final match to the fourth-seeded Yeon Ju Bae of Korea 21-10, 12-21, 18-21 at the Japan Open in Tokyo.
Saina Nehwal retained her fourth place in the list.
In men’s singles, P. Kashyap slipped one rung down to be placed at 20th, while Ajay Jayaram jumped six places to 23rd, following his semi-final finish in Chin a. However, at the Japan Open, he went down 21-10, 12-21, 18-21 to fourth seed Yeon Ju Bae, in the pre-quarters. (PTI)
