Siliguri, Sept. 20: A gastroenterologist has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl who had come from Guwahati to get herself treated in his chambers here today.
Bhaktinagar police today arrested Narayan Agarwal, who runs his clinic at Pareshnagar. According to police and the victim’s relatives, the girl had come to Siliguri from Assam with her elder sister and brother-in-law Debasis Dey, for treatment of some gastro ailment.
“We reached here this morning from Guwahati for better treatment of my sister-in-law, who has been having some gastro problems. We went to my cousin Subrata Dhar’s place, and on his advice, went to meet the doctor at his clinic around 11am,” said Dey, the victim’s brother-in-law.
“The doctor took her in the chambers and did not allow my wife in. After about 10 minutes, my sister-in-law suddenly ran out of the chambers, hugged my wife and started crying, saying that the doctor had molested her,” he added.
Anand Kumar, the Siliguri commissioner of police, has said the medic has been charged under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force used against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and a case has been registered against him.
