Morning Star in semis

Nagaon, Sept. 20: Football heavyweight Morning Star entered the semi-final of the 8th Chief Executive Member Cup football tournament, defeating United Greenland Football Club, Meghalaya 5-0 in the second quarter-final at Dima Hasao District Sports Association’s N.L. Daulogupu sports complex in Haflong today.

Today’s match took off at 1.18pm, 48 minutes after the scheduled time.

With two outstation Nigerian players — Sanni Saluiaman and Jerry K. Sunday — Morning Star kept its dominance all through the match. It led Greenland 4-0 till the end of the first half.

In the 18th minute, striker Sunday’s beautiful free kick brought the first goal of the match.

Sunday’s second attempt in the 22nd minute was foiled as the ball touched the bar and returned.

It followed Saluiaman’s beautiful corner shot in the 27th minute.

Saluiaman scored the fourth and fifth goals in the 34th and 72nd minutes.

Morning star midfielder Penson Tissu’s skilful shot from the D box brought the third goal of the match in the 29th minute.

Dimapur United Football Club defeated Blood Mouth Club Hailakandi 5-0 in the first quarter-final on Tuesday.

YOSC Manipur will meet hosts 119 Territorial Army in the third quarter-final tomorrow.
