Missing 5-yr-old found dead

The body of a five-year-old girl, who had been missing since Wednesday evening, was recovered from Adityapur’s Kuluptanga slum on Thursday morning.

Sources said the child had gone missing from near her Kuluptanga residence on Wednesday. The body was found near the backyard of her house on Thursday. A piece of cloth was tied round the girl’s neck, suggesting that she might have been strangulated to death. Seeing the condition of the body, police did not rule out sexual assault.

OC of RIT police station Rajesh Prakash Sinha, under whose jurisdiction Kuluptanga comes, said they were waiting for the post-mortem report, which is expected to come in a week’s time. According to sources, the body had become stiff and bore bruises and bloodstains.

Relatives of the victim said the child was last spotted playing near a Ganesh Puja pandal near her house around 5.30pm on Wednesday.

Sub-inspector Sinha said that they suspected that the attackers were known to the victim and hence they did not have any troubles in luring her away. “After our preliminary investigations, we questioned some youths who had participating in the Ganesh Puja. However, none of them raised any suspicion so far,” Sinha said.

He added that they would interrogate more youths and hoped to crack the case early.
