Durgapur, Sept. 19: Over 5,000 students of National Institute of Technology in Durgapur have been boycotting classes and their mid-semester exams for the past three days protesting the “intolerable” conditions in hostels.
The graduation and post-graduation students of the deemed institute said at least four of them were suffering from dengue and jaundice.
“Four students who were suffering from dengue and jaundice had gone to home for treatment. The college authorities remained indifferent to the living conditions despite our repeated pleas.
NIT director T. Kumar said the grievances would be looked into. “I have held a meeting with the students today and have asked them to appear for the on-going exam. I am hopeful the matter would be sorted out by tomorrow,” he said.
