New Delhi: Unperturbed by Mahesh Bhupathi’s threat to drag the national body to the court, All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Tuesday stood firm on its decision to exclude the ace doubles specialist from the Indian team till June 30, 2014.
Speaking on behalf of AITA, Hironmoy Chatterjee, an executive member of the association, said: “Mahesh is free to go to the court of law… It is open for everyone in a democratic set up like India. We are not bothered since our decision was based on disciplinary ground.”
AITA is upset over the fact that Bhupathi wanted to control the selection of the team and refused to go by the decision of the selection committee on the eve of the Olympics.
“Mahesh wants to be a player, selector and administrator, all rolled into one,” said the AITA official. “It is not possible. We have tolerated enough and would not take it any further.”
The chairman of the selection committee, Anil Dhupar said action was taken against Bhupathi for going against the selection committee.
