2 hurt in firing at Jemco

Two persons sustained gunshot injuries in what police suspect was the result of a fight between the victims at Jemco in Telco police station area on Monday night, though they claimed to have been fired at by a turbaned man.

Jai Prakash Mishra, 30, and Golu Kumar Sonu, 26, both residents of Jemco, were been admitted to Tata Main Hospital. Mishra, whose temple was grazed by a bullet, is said to be critical. Sonu sustained injuries in his right leg.

Sources said the victims were standing near a betel shop at Jemco Chowk around 9.30pm when a man allegedly attacked them.

SSP Akhilesh Kumar Jha said they were yet to get a clear picture about what led to the incident and who opened fire. Jha quoted the victims as saying that one Birre Singh of the locality shot at them, but no one confirmed it.

The SSP added that Jai Prakash Mishra was charged with assault cases earlier. “We suspect there was a conflict between Mishra and Sonu, and that the firing was the result of the conflict,” he said.

The police suspect the victims gave misleading statements, as they have not revealed any reason that may have provoked the accused.

Sources said Singh was an influential person at Jemco. A property dealer earlier, he has recently switched to transport business.

Telco police have registered a case against unknown persons.
