Twilight yields to signs of dawn

- Grapevine: R-Patz forgives ‘Trampire’

London, Sept. 16: This is an everyday Hollywood love story of Robert, Kristen, Rupert and Liberty — and how their couplings, de-couplings and re-couplings keep both sides of the Atlantic in thrall.

Robert Pattinson, a highly regarded 26-year-old British actor popularly known to fans as R-Patz, and Kristen Stewart, a 22-year-old American actress, are a beautiful young couple who became boyfriend and girlfriend after they co-starred in the first of the hugely successful Twilight vampire films four years ago.

The big news is that after their much publicised split following her affair with film director Rupert Sanders, they were reported today to have affected an equally high-profile reconciliation.

“They pretty much decided they couldn’t live without each other,” a source told The Sun newspaper in the UK. “Kristen poured her heart out to Robert and told him it was a one-off and a mistake.”

The source added: “Rob sees it as Kristen made a really stupid mistake. After long, tearful talks, they’ve worked it out. Rob can see how truly sorry Kristen is and has totally forgiven her. They really do love each other. For now they are focusing on themselves.”

In November, Robert and Kristen are due to appear together at premieres and other events to promote the fifth and final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Rupert, 41, is the archetypal randy director who couldn’t keep his hands off Kristen when she acted in his debut film, Snow White and the Huntsman, which was released in America earlier this year and made a fair bit of money.

Unfortunately for him, paparazzi pictures of him passionately “snogging” Kristen got into the US Weekly celebrity magazine.

Robert immediately walked out on his girlfriend, whom his fans started calling “Trampire”, while Rupert’s English model-and-actress wife, Liberty Lettice Lark Ross, 33, was far from pleased at seeing the photographs. She threatened to file for divorce and fly back to England with their children Tennyson and Skyla.

Although it was suspected that Robert and Kristen had been going out together and had occasionally been spotted kissing and cuddling in public, their relationship was confirmed only when she confirmed she had cheated on her boyfriend of more than three years.

“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” Kristen apologised in a formal statement. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

Rupert, too, said sorry to Liberty, though earlier he had apparently told Kristen that his wife didn’t really understand him and that he had never met anyone quite like Kristen.

Now he told People magazine: “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”

Whether his wife buys this excuse remains to be seen though there are indications she may rethink whether she really wants a divorce. Rupert may be forced to sleep in the spare bedroom for a while.

There is much more public interest in Robert and Kristen. News of their reconciliation, first reported in The Sun, has been carried in The Huffington Post and media outlets all over the world.

The unidentified source assured The Sun that Robert had moved back in with Kristen in the pad in Los Angeles they had previously shared — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have a place in the same compound.

When Robert first split from his girlfriend, he sought solace by going to stay at the California ranch of American actress Reese Witherspoon, where Kristen’s father, John Stewart, asked him to let bygones be bygones and patch it up with his daughter.

Shaken by the vitriolic online campaign against Kristen by Twilight fans, Robert finally relented.

No doubt, there was also gentle nudging by the studios since Twilight has proved a remarkable money-making franchise.

Robert was picked by Mira Nair for her film, Vanity Fair, in 2004, though his part was retained only for the DVD version. In 2005, he was cast as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

It would have been embarrassing if Robert and Kristen had not been able to walk the red carpet together when Breaking Dawn Part 2 comes out in November.

Fortunately for the producers, Kristen was spotted wearing one of Robert’s outsize T-shirts when she caught a flight a couple of days ago to Toronto to promote another of her films, On the Road. This is seen as a sign her romance with Robert is back on track.
