Three youths passed lewd comments at a 20-year-old girl and roughed up her male friend after she slapped one of them a stone’s throw away from Barasat police station on Sunday evening. At Bhagyabantpur, 4km from Barasat town, a 14-year-old was allegedly raped by a youth around the same time.
Tapan Sil, 28, was arrested in connection with the first incident, on KNC Road around 8.30pm. The other two accused are absconding. The girl had lodged a complaint with the police station.
Chiranjit Ghosh, 25, was arrested for allegedly raping the teenager when she was walking home from a neighbour’s house. The girl’s parents had lodged a complaint.
