CRPF jawan dies, kin file FIR against Pratap

Ranchi, Sept. 15: An FIR was lodged against CRPF DIG Bhanu Pratap Singh in Nagri police station today following the death of a jawan.

The FIR against the DIG, at present posted in Chaibasa, was filed on the basis of a statement made by Amrit Bhagat, the nephew of deceased jawan Bhukla Bhagat.

SP (rural) A.V. Minz said Bhukla died on September 13 at Apollo Hospital in Ranchi, where he had been undergoing treatment since August 4 after he was referred from the CRPF hospital.

Police sources said the FIR alleged Singh punched the jawan in the stomach for failing to make arrangements for liquor on time for an officers’ party at the CRPF camp in Dhurwa.

The DIG, however, rubbished the allegations.

“I was no way involved with the deceased. As far as I know, the jawan had been suffering from kidney ailments for long and died of kidney failure.

The complaint was lodged under Section 304 of IPC (unintentional murder).
